11 Helpful Tips for Decorating Your Outdoor Wedding Venue

Make Your Best Day Ever Seamless and Unforgettable

Saying “I Do” under a canopy of nature, listening to the sweet songs of the birds, having space to breathe… these are just a few reasons couples decide to choose the great outdoors for their wedding day. We may be a little bias, but choosing an outdoor wedding venue for your wedding day definitely has it’s perks and we’re here to give you a few tips for decorating your outdoor event space.

1. Consider the Season!

Use nature! Too many signs and decorations can take away from an environment’s natural beauty. The best part of getting married at an outdoor wedding venue is the constantly changing scenery with each season.

So use the leaves as a floor! Use the lush leaves of the trees as a perfect backdrop. Make sure the color tones of your floral installations don’t clash with the environment around them. We’re not saying you can’t have pops of color, but colors like bright hot pink next to the muted neutrals often clash and are distracting.

2. Make it Element Proof

Wind, Rain, Hot, Cold – Minnesota gives us plenty of reasons to be weather prepared. So bring on the floral wire, industrial easels and zip ties!

We recommend high top table linens that are tied at the center or tight to the tables along with reception table linens that are long (to avoid wind blowing your linens away). Avoid glass whenever possible. Wide-based vases are the way to go along with plexiglass for signs. You wouldn’t want your reserved seating chart to come crashing down!

3. Adorn with Garlands and Draping

You want your wedding venue space to reflect your style and to transport your guests to another place! Loosely draped garlands to statement draping and light combinations can elevate your outdoor wedding ceremony and reception space.

Garlands

When it comes to garlands, they come in all shapes and sizes – Classic to Modern, we love it all!

Garland décor ideas include: suspending green wreaths by your head table, incorporating organic garland at your ceremony site (like Rachel and Graham pictured below), attaching greenery to statement lighting, suspending it in the air above the head table or dancefloor, or even installing a trellis.

Draping

Billowing fabric adds an ethereal element to your wedding day. Sheer white, blush, or a pop of color fastened with florals, twinkle lights, or an exceptional lighting design will transform a blank slate into a masterpiece. Talk about romantic wedding day vibes!

4. Make a Statement with Floral Installations

Instead of just bouquets on tabletops (especially in your reception area), think about using floral installations to fill your outdoor space. Suspended greenery and impressive floral arrangements take your guests from “Wow!” to “How?” These artistic and impressive details give your outdoor wedding venue an untamed garden vibe.

5. Seek out Eco-Friendly Decorations

Your wedding is meant to be a celebration of love and one of the greatest days of your life but, unfortunately, it can be one of the most wasteful days. We’re not saying you should skip the party or forgo those gorgeous details, but we recommend reusing and recycling as much as you can as well as avoiding décor that is harmful to the environment (such as glitter, rice or balloons).

Rent or borrow your décor: Check with family and friends to see what they have for you to use for your wedding décor. (You never know what cool vintage items you’ll find in Grandma’s basement!) You can also check with a professional decorator, your professional day-of-coordinator, bar or catering services to see if they have any included items for your special evening to rent or borrow.

Donate your decor: If you decide to go all out with a floral installation, there are great places for you to compost the florals or even donate them. Twofold Blooms, a local non-profit in Minnesota, repurposes florals from weddings and makes them into smaller bouquets for seniors in memory care or hospice.

Be eco-friendly by decorating your reception tent with live trees! You heard us correctly! After your wedding, you can plant them in your honor.

6. Bring the Outdoors, Indoors and the Indoors, Outdoors!

Wedding trends will always come and go, but you’ll find that an outdoorsy, natural wedding is always a popular choice. So, why not mix and match the elements to really bring the space to life? So hang greenery in The Garden’s reception tent. Drop a vintage couch behind The Garden’s Fireplace. Make your outdoor space unique and “so you”.

7. Set Up Plenty of Food and Water Stations

Your guests will need plenty of water and snacks on a hot summer day. Snacks and drinks (not just the alcoholic kind) keep people happy…which makes your wedding day more enjoyable and memorable. Infused water tables and donut walls are definitely a fan favorite.

Defused water, iced tea, and just plain old water gives alcohol-free options for hydration for your Outdoor Wedding in Minnesota.

8. Provide a Photo Station

Hire a booth or make a booth! Photo stations provide excellent entertainment for guests of all ages and they get to take a special souvenir home from your day.

9. Don’t forget the Night Lighting

As we approach the holidays, you can appreciate the magic of driving through town and seeing the general décor, but then coming back at night to see an entirely different show! A few strings of twinkles can take you far.

10. Bring a Tool Kit

If you wonder if you’re going to need a certain tool for set-up. Bring it. Better yet, bring two. For example, many outdoor wedding venues require that you bring your own ladder for decorating. We suggest bringing one or two – especially if you have several people helping you set up the morning of your wedding.

Other helpful items to bring for set-up include: Scissors (again, bring several sets), zip-ties, extra draping and linens if you are providing these, extra strings of lights if you are providing these, and twine or floral wire.

11. Hire the Professionals

When it comes to decorating your venue, sometimes it’s hard to decipher what YOU should do, and what the professionals should do. Your budget matters, but so does your sanity.

Professional decorators know how much fabric they need to fill the space and make it look intentional; They have extra lightbulbs and replacement light strands; They have the biggest ladders you’ve ever seen to get the draping and lights nice and high; They come back at midnight to take everything down so you don’t have to worry about it. The list goes on and on and we believe they are worth every penny.

The best way to stretch your budget when decorating for your wedding is to concentrate décor in specific areas and make them Instagram worthy. This can be done through color, lighting and using statement pieces. Whether they are flowers, vignettes, or props, focal areas need to catch the eye, and capture your guests’ senses.”

The Gardens Vineyard

The Garden’s Vineyard is the Perfect Setting for First Looks, Private Vows, and Wedding Day Photos.

A wedding day just isn’t complete without the romantic vibes of a vineyard. So in 2018 when Vineyard Manager Eric Z. approached Glenn – owner of The Gardens of Castle Rock – about starting a vineyard at The Gardens as a passion project, Glenn didn’t hesitate to approve of the venture. Let’s just say Eric wanted wine, Glenn wanted picture opportunities. Win, win!

About The Gardens Vineyard

For you wine enthusiasts, you may be interested to know that there are three varieties of grapes that grow in the vineyard. The Petite Pearl and Crimson Pearl are red hybrid grape varieties (developed in Minnesota) and Adalmiina grapes which are a white variety.

These broadleaf vines are naturally hardy for a Minnesota winter, but are not so natural when it comes to growing vertically. A lot of care and consideration has been put into designing the frames and ties so that couples have the picture perfect spot for private vows, first looks, and wedding day photos.

These broadleaf vines tend to grow more horizontally, so throughout the season, the vines are tied strategically so that they grow upward. This helps create lovely, tall rows of vines for each wedding couple to enjoy on their wedding day.

More importantly, you may be wondering if these grapes are used to make wine? You bet. Eric tends to the vines throughout each season monitoring their growth, pollination, and when they’re optimal for picking.

After they have been picked, he starts the process of pressing and destemming the fruit, fermentation into alcohol, and bottling the finished liquid.

Eric will be the first to tell you that the process of making the wine is relatively short compared to the clean-up… which seems endless.

Vineyard Views on Your Wedding Day

The vineyard is situated on the walk back to The Wedding in The Woods ceremony location. Since it is on the West side of the venue property, it is private AND boasts a gorgeous view of the sunset. (Hello, Golden Hour!)

A Real Wedding Spotlight of a Sunday Wedding at The Gardens of Castle Rock

Sunday weddings are for tattoo stations, disco balls, and live bands… wait, what?

Love Keeps the Cold Out Better Than a Cloak – Anna Bradstreet

Let’s back up for just a minute. First, you need to know that Emily ventured out one chilly December night to support a friend who was playing in a band. Casey, the host of what they dubbed, “Bro-ing Up Christmas”, was also playing at this party. In true retro-movie fashion, their eyes met from across the room. It was love at first sight. They graduated college, adopted a couple cats, and decided they needed an adventure.

Met with sub-zero temps in Minneapolis in 2019, Emily and Casey started a new life together, and were engaged.

It only made sense, then, that Emily and Casey were again met with a cold bite in the air when they first visited The Gardens of Castle Rock in May of 2021. Even so, there were stars in their eyes as they walked around the grounds. They snuggled up and talked about how to design each space at The Gardens to illustrate their fun, easy-going, “Sunday Kind of Love”.

The Perfect Ceremony

Fast forward to September 11th – their wedding day. Contrary to their previous important life events, there wasn’t a cold breeze to be felt nor a cloud in the sky. Their friends worked diligently cutting florals as Stargazer Designs hung disco balls, draping, and lights in the tent. Emily had spent months collecting vintage table decoration for each table and we believe it was well worth the months Casey endured walking a small path through their home.

Kisses half way up the aisle are a must!

Their wedding ceremony took place in the infamous Lath House. Silk wisteria and macramé created the retro-70s, bohemian vibe they had envisioned since the beginning. They exchanged powerful vows that had everyone laughing, tearing up, and laughing while tearing up. The lovely environment was only out-beatified by their love.

As you may have noticed, music is particularly important to Emily and Casey, so they carefully selected a line up of incredibly talented individuals that mattered to them! Marcus DeJesus started the evening with patio entertainment during cocktail hour, HoneyButter had everyone swaying to the music while eating wood-fired pizzas by Vesuvios, and Mae Simpson raised the roof for the rest of the night. If you think that Sunday weddings are just for brunches and early nights, Emily and Casey easily proved that theory wrong!

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

As the sun crested over the just changing leaves of the maples in the woods, Emily and Casey started their day with yoga with family and friends.

Macramé and wisteria were the perfect combination for this vintage inspired wedding with bohemian vibes in The Lath House!

We know that you want your wedding day to be as unique as you are, so why follow everybody else’s timeline of what a Sunday wedding should look like? Sure, your guests may have work on Monday, so set them up for a great start to the week with a wedding day experience they’ll never forget! #1 Delight Your Guests with Entertainment!

Wedding entertainment is perfect for a Sunday wedding! From caricatures to live painting, aerialists to fire shows, magicians to live bands, there are many alternative ways for your guests to have fun at your Sunday reception (and will give them a reason to stick around). Check out these really great experiences that Garden’s couples have provided for their guests!

Live Painting

Live painting is becoming increasingly popular and it’s not too hard to figure out why. Not only will you walk away with a masterpiece created on the day you were married, but your guests will be so excited to watch them as they work.

Aerialist or a Fire Show

Live Band

Bands bring the music, but they also bring tons of personality. When it comes to your wedding day, why not have the party of your life? Live bands can perform during cocktail hour, for a portion of your dance, or jam out all night long. So whether you are hoping for an early night or to keep your guests dancing into Sunday evening, live music is a hit.

In The Fields played an eclectic mix of rock, pop, and country to entertain these wedding guests in the reception tent at The Gardens of Castle Rock.

#2: Create a Whimsical Ceremony Site with Wisteria

Wisteria (installed by Marah Cole Designs) was the cherry on top of Leah and Spencer’s Pretty Floral Garden Wedding.

Sigh. Wisteria. Does it grow naturally in The Lath House at The Gardens? No, it sure doesn’t. But, with the money you are saving by choosing a Sunday, many couples find that they can afford hiring a decorator to install this exquisite upgrade. Not only will you have a magical atmosphere for your “I Dos”, but your guests will be in awe of the most unique wedding ceremony space they have ever seen.

#3: Sundaes on Sunday

I scream, you scream, your guests scream for ice cream! An ice cream cart is the ticket between just another wedding cake dessert and serving your guests with a scoop of wedding day fun!

If you are going to provide a late night treat for your guests such as ice cream or wood fired pizza, make sure you note this on a timeline of events so your guests know what to expect (and stick around for).

#4: Game Night

Sunday night is family game night, so you know what that means? Beersbee, Checkers, Bocce Ball, Bags, Badminton, Crossnet, Spikeball, Ladder Toss, Kan-Jam, Giant Dominos, Giant Dice, Giant Jenga… you get the idea. Is this necessarily a new trend? Maybe not. But it’s a trend that we foresee as making your Sunday event one for guests to truly enjoy.

#5: Food Trucks

Why brunch when you can have street tacos? Just to clarify, we love brunch. In fact, we love breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, supper, dessert, and everything in between. We just want to give you full permission to think outside of the waffle iron and give your guests an unexpected wedding day meal that matches your fun and relaxed style.

#6: The Last Dance

Okay… We’ll admit it. Not every couple chooses to stay until midnight on Sunday. If this is you, we think you’re going to love this new trend called “The Last Dance”. It’s a great way to close down the party and to see off your family and friends in a fun and unique way.

Here’s how it works: First, go say goodbye to as many people as you can. (And if you tell your mom we told you to dance and ditch without saying good bye to her, we will direct her back to this post.) A quick hug and “thank you for coming” will suffice. (Again, a much longer hug for mom…)

Next, have your DJ announce your last dance and suggest your guests come to the dance floor. Your DJ can also take this opportunity to announce that your guests can line up for a picture opportunity after the song has ended as you exit to your car.

Then, you and your sweetie dance to the last song of the night. This is your opportunity to absorb all of the emotions of your wedding day and take in the very last moments. After the song is done, you guessed it, exit to your get-away car and your happily ever after as you are cheered on by friends and family. What a perfect way to end your best day ever!

We wanted our rehearsal dinner (Saturday evening) to be a time where our close family and friends got to spend time catching up rather than scrambling for a wedding on Saturday night. It was great to have a slow pace to the weekend leading up to the wedding—it put us all in a stress-free mindset. We were also grateful to find out that most of our food + dessert options were available on Sunday (whereas most of them were already booked for Saturdays through the summer). Our guests have brought up how fun it was to have ice cream at our wedding as well, and because our wedding was on Sunday, we had time to figure out the logistics of keeping it frozen the whole afternoon.”

Kristen & Nick’s Relaxed Rustic October Wedding

 

Real Wedding Spotlight: Crisp October weather, peak Minnesotan foliage, and rustic wedding décor created the perfect setting for Kristen & Nick’s rustic outdoor wedding.

They Met

Years of travels and adventures led Kristen and Nick to each other… just not in the way you might think. After earning their respective college degrees, Nick headed to the coast and Kristen to France as they sought adventure and new experiences. It wasn’t long before they missed their family and friends, so they both moved back to Iowa in 2018 whereupon they met on a dating app! Their first date provided an instant connection and the rest is history. As their Knot profile acknowledges, “The world led them to each other at a perfect time in both of their lives”.

They Said “I Do”

Fast forward to October 23rd, 2021 and you’ll find a spectacular fall day. A warm, light breeze filled The Gardens of Castle Rock as Kristen and Nick were greeted by their friends and family with… “oh my gosh, you’re getting married!” We hear it time and time again… Once your first look happens, you blink and your whole day goes by in a flash! From their first look in The Vineyard, photos around the garden with Bellagala, to their ceremony in The Lath House, and a magical first dance in The Reception Tent, time seemed to be racing by as if it was trying to keep up with the changing fall foliage.

Kristen and her bridesmaids took to The Garden’s suite to get primped by Primped and vendors from all around set to work placing all of the special décor for their day. Meanwhile, Nick and his groomsmen arrived on site with lively energy after a fun round of poker games at The Fairfield Inn. Event planner and coordinator Bailey Bivolarvov started the initial décor set-up under the twinkle of Stargazer Design’s café lights delicately draped in the reception tent.

Nick and Kristen’s ceremony was stunning. Bright, warm sunrays and lovely fall foliage filled the ceremony space as they exchanged vows and said “I do” under a lovely cottage inspired floral display by Hyvee Floral. If you listened really closely, you could hear the birds tweeting in the tree above The Lath House and the crisp crackling of leaves below their guest’s dancing shoes.

They Partied the Night Away

To end an unforgettable evening, guests danced the night away to entertainment provided by Bellagala or snuggled up to The Garden’s Natural Stone Fireplace. With bellies full of substantial cuisine by Hyvee Catering, yummy drinks from Equal Parts Cocktail Company, and late night pizza made in The Garden’s very own Late Night Pizza Oven, we imagine guests will be talking about Kristen and Nick’s perfect fall wedding for many years to come.

Kristen and Nick’s cozy, fall themed head table was made up of The Rustic Refined™ hand-crafted tables, lovely wooden floral bouqets, candles, and pinecones scattered about a vibrant table runner.

It’s no secret that your wedding day is all about you and your sweetie. Each aspect of your wedding day should reflect your style, interests, and personality! What is a Sweetheart Table?

Sweetheart tables are meant for, well, sweethearts! By Google’s definition, they are smaller tables that solely seat the newlyweds – but that doesn’t mean that’s the only way to incorporate the sweetheart table. Not only can sweetheart tables be on the larger side, they can also be used within the traditional head table line-up for extra leg room and comfort.

A longer sweetheart table is extra dramatic and may provide extra leg room AND wedding gown room (for those extra poofy ball gowns…).

Why Choose a Sweetheart Table?

The sweetheart table makes a cute AND functional head table! Cute on it’s own, but also functional in a traditional head table line up (what newlywed wants to be separated by table legs?). Here are a few more reasons…

You Get a Chance to Be Alone

We know you love your bridal party. You wouldn’t have picked them if you hadn’t, right? It’s okay to hang out with just your new spouse for supper time. How Do I Decorate a Sweetheart Table?

If we had a nickel for every couple that couldn’t enjoy their reception because their head table wasn’t decorated perfectly… Spoiler alert: We have yet to collect a nickel for this… So, enjoy the process! Here are some ideas to get you started…

1) Stick with your theme.

2) Pick Some Cozy Seating

3) Choose a Linen, Runner, or Garland. (Or don’t!)

Helpful Tips and Tricks for Styling Unique Outdoor Reception Tablescapes Your Guests will Never Forget!

Wedding reception table decoration sets the stage for your party, works as a great ice breaker for your guests and illustrates who you are as a couple. You might find yourself here because you’re wondering… “Where do I start?” It can feel overwhelming diving into the world of wedding table design. We will discuss where to start when creating your tablescape, along with other helpful tips and tricks for curating and implementing your wedding reception table décor. You will also find a collection of wedding day reception table settings to get you inspired. Here’s to creating an unforgettable dinner table for your guests!

Decide on a wedding “theme”. Examples of wedding themes include: Garden Inspired, Fairy Tale, Vintage, Modern, Rustic, Cultural, and Bohemian… just to name a few. Next, add an adjective to describe how you want your reception space to feel. For example: Cozy and Rustic. Romantic and Modern. Friendly and Colorful. Voilà! You’ve narrowed down your inspiration search.

The Elements of the Reception Table. We promise this isn’t chemistry class…but there is a science to the reception table. Potential elements of your reception tables include: place settings, linens, centerpieces, stationary elements (menu, place cards, table numbers), the chairs, favors, and lighting. If you’re going for a minimalist theme, having each of these displayed on every table may not be ideal, whereas a glamorous wedding may be all about the formalities.

Curate your table décor. The best part! Before you dive in to the world of curation, consider…

    1. Your Venue: Are open-flame candles allowed? If your venue is outside, are your items wind proof? What kind of décor is not allowed?

      Tell the story of your happily-ever-after with pictures of your journey at each reception table.

  1. The size and shape of your tables: While round tables may look best with larger, single centerpieces, rectangular tables can sport three (or more) smaller clusters of décor items. Table size and shape also affects the style and size for table linens. We advise finding out these dimensions before falling in love and purchasing linens that don’t fit.
  2. Guest Comfort: Your décor may be amazing and the flowers out of this world, but grandma isn’t going to be happy if she can’t put her plate down or see Uncle Bob who is sitting across from her. Practical table décor can also be stylish. You do not have to sacrifice style for function nor function for style.
  3. What’s already available to you: For some, this means talking with your decorator and/or Day of Coordinator about items they have available for you to use. For others, this means collecting vintage dishes and vases from friends and family.
  4. Have fun! Add a touch of the unexpected. Pops of color, mismatched centerpieces, embarrassing pictures from your childhood… it keeps guests intrigued and your space unique.

TESTING, TESTING, 1, 2, 3! You practice your vows, you practice walking in your wedding day formals, but did you practice your table set-up? Set-up your wedding reception centerpieces on a table with the same dimensions as your venue’s tables or call up your venue and see if you can test out your centerpieces on a table or two. Now, snap a photo – anyone placing your décor the morning of will thank you! As an outdoor venue, we also suggest setting up your décor outside (for several hours) to make sure it’s ready for any elements such as wind.

Pretty Floral Garden Wedding

Real Wedding Spotlight: Pretty floral arrangements combined with soft color hues created the most magical fairytale vibe for Leah & Spencer’s mid-September wedding day.

Enchanting, whimsical, gorgeous… Leah and Spencer’s pretty floral outdoor garden wedding has us yearning for warmer days ahead. Leah and Spencer laughed until they cried and cried until they laughed as they exchanged vows in the woods, cheered with their bridal party, and smooched in the vineyard. Family and friends were simply enchanted by their love and friendship all day.

The décor for the day suited Leah and Spencer’s hope for a pretty, elegant atmosphere. Classic draping, the stunning array of silk wisteria, and fresh rose arrangements adorned the Lath House’s ceremony space. Twinkle lights, chandeliers, and a lofted head table carried on these themes for an overall perfect day.

As their day turned to a sunset and the sunset turned to night, guests enjoyed late night pizzas from The Garden’s Pizza Oven, chatted by the fire, and danced the night away.

This is what an “oh-my-gosh-we’re-married” smooch looks like. Add in a dreamy ceremony location, roses, and a display of silk wisteria and you have pure wedding magic.

Blissfully happy, Leah and Spencer headed off into the setting sun to their wedding reception to party the night away.

Here are some helpful tips for fashioning your Gardens High-Top Tables:

Outdoor-Hardy Centerpieces We’ve seen flowers, twinkle lights, and pictures (you name it!) adorning the center of our high-top tables. Centerpieces help tell your story and create a vibe at your outdoor wedding reception; however, we also embrace mother nature here at The Gardens. We recommend that your centerpieces be outdoor hardy (heavy, low center of gravity, not too tall, ready to withstand wind).

Floor Length Tablecloths Utilizing a 120″+ round cloth linens covers the legs of each high-top table and creates an aesthetically pleasing look. Choose a 120″ round linen if you want it to nearly touch the ground or 132″ round linen if you want a billowing, overflowing look that will cover the legs. We recommend not going any bigger, otherwise your guests may face a tripping hazard.

Sashed Linens All linens should be tightly fastened mid-way down when hosting an outdoor wedding and there are so many unique ideas to integrate sashes! Check out the photos below for some cool ideas. We recommend testing out the sash to make sure it’s easy to tie and then stays fastened.

Round not Rectangular It may be tempting to reuse the white rectangular linens from your cousin’s wedding, but they do not drape correctly and look quite silly with open gaps on the side… Trust us!

Choose Fabric that’s Fireproof No birthday party plastic linens here! Non-flammable fabric is the best and only choice to create an elegant and safe reception space.

7 Ways to Guarantee Your Guests Have Fun on Your Wedding Day

Follow these simple tips to ensure every guest has a blast at your wedding day celebration.

One of the questions we like to ask potential Gardens couples is, “On the Monday morning after your wedding, what would you like your guests to remember?” Hands down, the number one answer is F-U-N. Weddings are a celebration of two people finding each other in a sometimes crazy-mixed-up world, so of course they should be one big fun party. Having been part of hundreds of weddings, The Gardens has complied seven ways couples can guarantee their guests have fun and have them waking up Monday morning with a huge smile on their face reflecting on all the fun they had.

Winter, spring, summer, fall….. communication is key when letting your guests know how they should dress for your day, especially if it’s an outdoor wedding.

1. You know the old saying….”Communication is key”. When it comes to your wedding day this couldn’t be more true. Whether you create a website, some type of Facebook post or an old fashion snail mail invitation, let your guests know what you’ve been planning and what they can expect. You may have planned the perfect day, but if your guests are not prepared for what will unfold on your perfect day, they may not have fun. Remember to consider the season and whether it will be hot or cold. This is particularly important if you are at an outdoor venue, give your guests suggestions for both footwear and clothing.

2. A good wedding celebration is more than just White Claw and Bush Light. Keeping your guests properly hydrated is a must. It’s your wedding day and you want it to last forever by spending the most time with your family and friends sharing experiences. Sense you’ll be spending most of the day and evening together, make sure there are plenty of beverages available throughout the day for your guests, non-alcoholic, as well as alcoholic. Remember if your getting married on a hot day, providing water stations to guests is especially important to keep guests hydrated. If you are inviting children to your wedding, consider beverage options for them and don’t forget the hardcore coffee drinkers who will be looking for a hot cup of Joe the minute dessert is served.

3. Since you’ve been planning your wedding day for months or maybe years, you know the timing of your day down to the minute, but your guests don’t. If guests are at your event for a long time, they are going to need some sort of nourishment. No one will be having fun if they are hangry. For example, let’s say your ceremony is scheduled early at 2:00 pm and guests just assume you’ll be having an early dinner. But to their surprise, dinner isn’t served until 6:00 p.m. and during the four hours between the ceremony and dinner there are no appetizers or snacks, your guests won’t be happy, they’ll be seriously hungry and hangry guests do not have fun. Be sure to consider the ages of your guests and choose to have a variety of age-appropriate snacks throughout the day to keep everyone happy and having fun.

4. Think of a fun way to incorporate your guests into the day. Yes, it’s your wedding day, but providing some special activities let guests know you appreciate their presence. From being part of the first dance to a sparkler send-off, competitive yard games or sharing a signature cocktail, anything that gives guests a feeling that they mattered during the event will work. But remember to always check with your venue to make sure the activities your thinking of are allowed.

Remember to provide plenty of time during the day so guests can have opportunities for the most fun.

7. We didn’t forget the number #1 fun generator during a wedding…. Music, baby! When it comes to true musical enjoyment there is nothing better than live music. It truly gets guests those who want to dance out on the floor and provides multi-sensory entertainment for guests who are more comfortable watching from their tables. Whether it’s a quartet, mariachi band, solo acoustic guitar or 10-piece live band, everyone can enjoy the talents of live musicians.

Bonus tip: After dancing, playing games and having tons of fun, send your guests off with a sweet treat. Whether it’s ice cream, donuts, or woodfire pizza, a late-night snack is always a win as guests head home reminiscing about your fun-filled wedding day.
