Real Wedding Spotlight: A Classic Wedding Day Look for a Modern Wedding Couple

In an age where wedding trends can change with the seasons, Jack and Ally chose to celebrate their love with a day rooted in timeless, sophisticated elegance, while injecting personal touches that made the event distinctly their own. Set against the lush, natural backdrop of The Gardens of Castle Rock, this celebration was the perfect marriage of classic romance and modern charm.

Allie & Jack’s beautiful wedding celebration masterfully blended timeless romance with contemporary, personal flair, perfectly befitting a modern couple. As the bride, Allie epitomized classic elegance in her white organza bridal gown, which featured a dramatic trumpet silhouette softened by an ethereal floral and leaf tulle overlay. Paired with a sweeping tulle cathedral-length veil, she chose a delicate bouquet of pastel pink and white roses, that looked utterly timeless. The bridal party continued the soft, romantic palette, with bridesmaids dressed in pale blue with smaller bouquets similar to Allie’s. Jack and his groomsmen maintained a sophisticated standard in sharp tuxedos, while the couple’s beloved dog Remi stole the show as the adorable “ring bear,” with the wedding bands hooked securely to his collar—a charming and modern personalization.

The breathtaking setting of The Gardens of Castle Rock provided the perfect canvas for this elegant event. The ceremony took place in the bright and airy Lath House, offering guests an intimate space surrounded by nature. This was immediately followed by a celebration held on the patio around the Garden Pavilion and under the Wedding Reception Tent, allowing the festivities to flow seamlessly from day to night. The Wedding Reception Tent decor was a study in refined simplicity: white table linens on the round tables provided a crisp base for centerpieces of pale flowers and greenery. Overhead, the ceiling of the Wedding Reception Tent was transformed by cascading crystal pendants interspersed with lush greenery and illuminated by the soft glow of white cafe lights, creating a romantic, starry ambiance. Even the minimalistic two-tiered white cake adhered to the clean, sophisticated theme.

Hosting this memorable day at The Gardens of Castle Rock is an incredibly smart choice for couples seeking a versatile and naturally stunning backdrop. As demonstrated by Allie and Jack’s wedding, the venue offers distinct yet cohesive areas—from the structural beauty of the Lath House for the ceremony to the open air of the patio for the reception—which streamlines the guest experience. This transition allows couples to create an integrated celebration without the need for travel between events. Furthermore, the natural beauty of The Gardens means less money needs to be spent on transforming the space; the venue’s inherent elegance, coupled with a simple, sophisticated decor plan of white, pale colors, and greenery, effortlessly achieves a high-end, romantic aesthetic.

Once Upon a Wedding: A Whimsical Outdoor Celebration Right Out of a Storybook

Have you ever wished you could step into a storybook—wandering through a world filled with whimsy and romance? For Chi and Ashley, that dream came true on their wedding day at The Gardens of Castle Rock.

The magic of the day began with the first look in the serene Wedding in the Woods and continued into the beautifully decorated Lath House ceremony site. Inspired by Disney’s Tangled and Up, Ashley thoughtfully wove elements from both films throughout the celebration. She even renamed the Gardens Pavilion—home to the bar—the “Snuggly Duckling,” a playful nod to the pub near Rapunzel’s tower. At the candy station displayed on a Gardens Mid-Height Table, guests found a whimsical replica of Carl Fredricksen’s house from Up, complete with thousands of balloons.

The Gardens’ natural beauty, along with the newly added Cruck Frame and Lath House Covered Pergola, created a breathtaking backdrop. The moment Ashley walked down the aisle and into the Lath House to say her forever “I do,” felt like a moment lifted straight from a fairytale. Lining the aisle, lush floral arrangements in a variety of colors, textures, and sizes gave the feeling of discovering a hidden meadow deep within an enchanted forest.

In the Wedding Reception Tent, white café lights twinkled above as oversized, handcrafted flowers seemed to float overhead. The Cedar Banquet Tables were dressed in moss runners, tiny bud vases, glowing votive candles, playful mushrooms, and delicate butterflies—bringing their storybook vision beautifully to life.

As the sun began to set, Chi and Ashley stepped away to share a quiet moment together. Their photographer captured the glow of golden hour as they held each other close—grateful, radiant, and certain they had found their happily-ever-after.

Here’s what Chi & Ashley had to say about their wedding day at The Gardens of Castle Rock, “This venue is straight out of a dream — magical, natural, and beautifully maintained. From the moment my now-husband and I visited, we felt it was fate. Glenn and the staff were with us every step of the way for nearly two years, offering incredible communication and support to ensure our wedding day was seamless. We chose the Lath House for our ceremony, and it was the perfect choice. The multiple photo locations are stunning, and we couldn’t have picked a more enchanting place to start our forever.”

2025 Wedding Trends: What We’re Seeing & Loving

In 2025, couples will be embracing a wedding style inspired by the timeless beauty of old-world charm. This trend merges the elegance of vintage European aesthetics with the casual, joyful ambiance of a garden party. It’s all about creating a dreamy, sophisticated atmosphere with subtle touches of fairytale romance and understated decadence.

The old-world style thrives in spaces that feature weathered stonework, vintage elements, and lush natural surroundings.

Imagine floral arrangements that look freshly picked from an 18th-century English garden, with cascading blooms and textured greenery. The color palette centers around soft pinks, lavender blush, and gentle peach tones, accented by an array of rich, natural greens.

Understanding that visuals speak louder than words, The Gardens partnered with top wedding professionals to showcase this enchanting style through photos. From lush floral installations to intricately detailed tablescapes, couples can see how old-world charm comes to life in every detail.

Wedding Traditions: Something Old, Something New

The Transformational Story of the Heirloom Scotch Pine at the Heart of The Gardens

Kahlil Gebran, the Lebanese-American poet once wrote, “Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky.” That quote was from a book published in 1926, which roughly corresponds to the age of our beloved Scotch Pine tree; by all estimates it’s between 80 and 100 years old. In that time, both The Gardens and the world at large have seen an absolute myriad of changes, both large and small. But through everything, this beautiful tree has remained a constant facet on the land and in the day-to-day events and operations that have surrounded it. But now, it’s time to bid our iconic tree farewell.

Over the last eight months, a fungus called Diplodia has sadly killed our beloved tree. At the start of the 2023 wedding season, the Scotch Pine was resplendently adorned with rich green needles reaching skyward. But during the 2023 wedding season, the green needles turned to brown as the fungus spread through the entire tree. The tree will be coming down in a slow and meticulous fashion in order to salvage its large limbs and branches.  The salvaged pieces are being repurposed into an exciting new timber structure here at The Gardens.

While we are devastated to loose such a integral focal point of The Gardens, especially one with such meaning, the Scotch Pine’s next chapter has been developing over the last several months. As it became apparent that we would lose the entire tree, Glenn began designing and brainstorming potential ways to repurpose the timber. The limbs and branches from the tree will be fashioned into a new structure using an early style of framing known as cruck framing. This type of framing uses naturally shaped logs to create an arch with the branches, called cruck blades. As you’ll see in a sketch below, we will use the curved parts of the Scotch Pine to bring the cruck frame to life. This tree has watched over hundreds of weddings at The Gardens, and it will continue to do so in another form. To watch the process unfold, follow The Workshop at The Gardens.

It’s amazing to think that the Scotch Pine has played such an integral part of every wedding at The Gardens, whether providing shade for guests, being a conversation starter, or acting as the backdrop for countless family portraits. We just couldn’t get enough of this tree!  We hope you enjoy the following photos as much as we do.

The Gardens’ Scotch Pine may have died, but we can’t help marvel how glorious it looks in the setting sun.

In the 1970’s, the Scotch Pine stood strong and healthy when the property was a nursery.

Switzer’s Kids Nursery….trees, shrubs and occasional weeds for sale….underneath the Scotch Pine as it served as the base of operations for Glenn’s first business, circa 1970s.

The field behind the Scotch Pine in this photo now holds our Wedding Reception Tent. Circa 1970’s.

Three generations of Switzers and their nursery crew beneath the Scotch Pine, circa 1970’s.

In the 1980’s, the Scotch Pine sat as a welcoming island amongst the trucks of the past landscaping business. Can you spot where the Lath House was eventually built?

The Scotch Pine in the 1990’s, complete with a brand new Lath House!

The Scotch Pine’s beautiful textured bark added warmth and texture to the The Gardens and what makes it so special.

From a distance, it’s difficult to tell that the tree is a pine. But on closer inspection, the Scotch Pine is made up of thousands of these wispy needles.

The twisted limbs of the tree make for an opportune spot to sneak a couple photos of the ceremony in the Lath House.

The huge shapely golden-brown boughs of the Scotch Pine shade the walkway to the Lath House.

What is stately, strong and perfectly proportioned? What is our Scotch Pine, Alex (That’s a Jeopardy reference).

Have you ever heard the saying, “You’re missing the forest for the trees.”? In this case, focusing on the Scotch Pine tree is a good thing.

The colors, sizes and textures of all the different trees, bushes, plants and flowers matched perfectly with the strong Scotch Pine.

The celebration continues post ceremony. Silver lining…..the brown Scotch Pine actually coordinates with the wedding parties’ color scheme.

Want to know a photography tip? An overcast sky is terrific for shooting a wedding. Why? Colors pop….even if they’re brown. Photo by: Bailey Creative Co

Curious as to what diplodia is? You’re in luck because I’m going to tell you! Diplodia is a fungus that kills young needles and actively growing shoots of pine trees that have two to three needles per bundle. That would be a Scotch Pine! Photo by: Bradley Hanson Photography

The Scotch Pine has gotten a lot of attention, I mean how many photos of one tree can we look at!?! Let’s give the gorgeous redbud tree its moment. As one of the first signs of spring, the redbud is always a welcome sight. Photo by: Wilde Photography

Hiring Wedding Vendors… Key Questions to Ask

Hiring Wedding Vendors… Key Questions to Ask

The right vendors will make your wedding day perfect!

Couples visit with vendors at the Northfield Wedding Fair hosted by The Gardens of Castle Rock.

Your wedding is probably the biggest party you’ve ever thrown. A typical wedding relies on multiple vendors and has much more in common with a corporate event than a cocktail party, so you have to embrace the fact that you are now a project manager for a large, complicated and expensive project. If that’s not enough pressure, it’s also a project with many stakeholders and potentially significant emotional baggage.

Wedding fairs are a great way to meet several vendors all in one location.

Contributing to the complexity are the multiple moving parts–your various vendors. At minimum, most weddings rely on these: wedding planner, venue, caterer, officiant, photographer, florist, and DJ. Bonus vendors may range from bartenders to gown consultants to videographers to photo booths. Organizing a wedding is not for the faint of heart!

We’ve got some tips for you, but they’re just the tip of the ice berg. Here are some basics, but we suggest you consult the vast and very helpful resources online. Search “questions to ask wedding venue” and you’ll find lists with as many as a hundred questions! Scan the resources, articles and checklists on the web and consolidate a list of questions that reflects your needs. Each vendor will require questions specific to their services, but here are a few important questions that will apply to any vendor:

  • What’s your story? Why and how did you get into this business?
  • Are you available on our date?
  • Will you work with our venue?
  • Will you work with us according to our budget? Are you in our price range?
  • How long have you been in business?
  • How many weddings do you do each year?
  • What percentage or your business is weddings?
  • What’s your availability, during planning and on the day of?
  • Who is the wedding day point person, and how to I contact him/her?
  • Can you share recent references?
  • Can you share recent examples of your work?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your payment structure?
  • Do you have liability insurance? (This will cover little surprises like injury due to falls or damage to rental items)
  • What’s your backup plan if you’re ill or indisposed at the last minute?
  • What’s your backup plan if the weather goes bad?
  • Do you charge travel and/or overtime fees?
  • What does your planning process look like?
  • What’s your preferred mode of communication?

Sampling at a wedding fair is just a sneak peek at what a vendor has to offer. Always schedule a full tasting with prospective vendors.

It’s also vital to embrace your role as a project manager. Arranging a wedding is like a second job, and should be treated like one. As you deal with a range of professionals, conducting yourself in a professional manner will get the best results. Be punctual and business-like at meetings and expect the same from your vendors. Presenting yourself in business or business-casual attire will convey a better impression than showing up to your first meeting in workout wear. It’s literally a job interview for the vendor, and you are the boss!

While it’s tempting to meet with a dozen competing vendors for each role, that’s sure to invite burnout. Limit yourself to three or four candidates. Hone your short list by getting recommendations from friends, giving extra credence to those who had recent events. Check the list of preferred vendors provided by your venue, and also the lists on other reputable venue sites. Check vendor websites and make a quick initial inquiry to verify that they’re in your budget, they are available on your date, and they will work with your venue.

Vendors have experience. Ask them questions and get specific advice for what you are planning.

When you meet, take chemistry into account. You’ll be working closely with these people on a very big day, perhaps under significant pressure: It’s important to feel some mutual connection. You have plenty of questions, and your vendor should be patient and gracious in responding to them. It’s vital that your communication styles are in sync.

After the meeting, take time to digest the experience. You don’t need to make a snap decision: most vendors will hold your date for two to seven days after the meeting. Consult your notes, compare your experience with the various candidates, and honor your gut instincts.

One thing to not overlook when hiring wedding vendors is confirming how well they collaborate with your other vendors you’ve booked. Seamless coordination between your venue, caterer, planner, and entertainment can make the difference between a smooth, stress-free wedding day and one filled with last-minute hiccups. Ask vendors if they’ve worked at your venue before or if they are willing to connect with the venue coordinator in advance to review logistics and any guidelines they may have. Vendors who prioritize communication and teamwork will help ensure your wedding day flows effortlessly from start to finish, allowing you to stay present and enjoy every moment.

In a future blog we’ll give you some ideas on where to find the perfect vendors for you wedding. Attending local wedding or bridal fairs is a great way to informally meet several vendors in one outing.  The Gardens of Castle Rock hosts a wedding fair each Spring.  You can always just contact us and we can provide recommendations from the numerous vendors who have provided services for events at The Gardens. The right vendors will make your wedding day perfect!
