The King’s Harvest Head Table ~ Wedding Reception Perfection

The centerpiece of the reception space, the King’s Harvest Head Table creates an ideal space to design an impressive tablescape.

After your ceremony site décor, your head table makes the biggest décor statement at your wedding….easily becoming the centerpiece of the reception as all eyes are trained on the newly married couple.

When it comes to your head table, The Gardens of Castle Rock has multiple head table options allowing you to create your dream head table and tablescape. From the traditional head table with the wedding party seated on one side to the intimate sweetheart table, the options for creating your ideal head table are endless.

If you are looking to have the entire wedding party seated around one table, the King’s Harvest Head Table is the perfect option! Typically situated in the center of the reception space with the couple in the middle of the table, the King’s Harvest Head Table easily becomes the showpiece of the reception space.

Designed and built by the team at The Workshop at The Gardens, the King’s Harvest Head Table is crafted out of western red cedar similar to the Gardens Cedar Wedding Banquet Tables and the Garden Cedar Wedding Mid-Height Tables.  The versatility and simple beauty of western red cedar makes it a favorite of The Gardens.

To give the table a rustic appeal, 6’ x 6’ timbers were used on the bottom while smooth cedar boards were used for the table’s surface.  Traditional timber frame techniques and joinery were employed to create the table’s formidable base while bridge washers and ¾” galvanized machine bolts were utilized to stabilize the table’s legs.  There’s no chance this table will blow over in a strong wind!  Once assembled the table was covered with a clear coat of polyurethane to pull out the natural grain of the western red cedar.

One of the most impressive things about the King’s Harvest Head Table is its 50” width creating an amazing amount of real estate to design the most memorable tablespace. The table is also very functional with the ability to configure into four different lengths to accommodate up to 22 people (see chart below).

The King’s Harvest Head Table is part of the Gardens Originals collection of rental items. To find out how you can incorporate this gorgeous table into your wedding reception, please contact a Gardens Representative at 651-264-9510 or info@thegardensofcastlerock.com.

Designed & built by The Workshop at The Gardens team, the King’s Harvest Head Table is quality craftsmanship.

With bridge washers and ¾” galvanized machine bolts, you won’t find a loose or wobbly leg on the King’s Harvest Head Table.

The sky is the limit when it comes to space for the tablescape!  The King’s Harvest Head Table measures 50″ across…..that’s a little over 4 feet!

The King’s Harvest Table has plenty of space for all your special décor touches, including vases for all the bridesmaids’ bouquets.

There is no rule as to where the King’s Harvest Table needs to be placed in the wedding reception tent…..Totally your choice! Positioning it towards the south side of the tent allows for the entire wedding party to enjoy the backdrop of The Gardens.

With four size options, even the largest wedding parties can all sit around one table.

The King’s Harvest Table is the perfect centerpiece in the The Gardens Wedding Reception Tent.

Thanks to the superior craftsmanship, the beauty of the King’s Harvest Table shines through and requires very little décor.

With so many chair options at The Gardens, you can tailor the King’s Harvest Table to exactly what you want your head table to be.

The décor options are endless when you choose the King’s Harvest Table for your head table.

Dinner may be over, but guests continue to enjoy sitting at the King’s Harvest Table getting to know one another.

The table’s formidable base with bridge washers and ¾” galvanized machine bolts stabilize the table’s legs. Translation…..there’s no way this table will collapse!

Love Your Budget and Your Wedding!

They say you can’t have your cake and eat it too. But what if that isn’t entirely true.

Flexible on the day of the week to tie the knot? Save big by considering days other than Saturday.

What if you can have the wedding of your dreams while operating within your budget? Here are 11 hot tips for a budget-friendly wedding that won’t break the bank!

1 – Start with a budget and prioritize

Set your total budget right out of the chute. Then with your partner, determine your top three splurges. Break it down and set a cap for each item on your list. Then communicate your budget to each of the vendors involved in your big day. Refuse to look at dresses, cakes, venues…that are outside of it.

2 – Be flexible with dates

Not including “plus guest” invites or hosting an adult-only event can help you stay within your wedding budget.

If you’re open to an off-peak and/or off-season wedding date, you’re much more likely to incur a cost savings. For example, a venue rental for a Friday or Sunday wedding tends to be more affordable than a traditional Saturday wedding. Moreover, a January wedding venue rental will be more cost-effective than a June wedding venue rental. Take advantage of the basic laws of supply and demand to secure the venue you want at a price you can afford.

3 – Choose seasonal flowers

It probably goes without saying that in-season blooms are much more affordable than their off-season counterparts. Have a friend or relative with an eye for floral arrangement? Consider picking some wildflowers or picking some blooms from your grandma’s flower garden. With permission, of course!

Mother Nature is the head decorator at The Gardens.  Just add a few additional floral pieces & you’ll have a beautiful yet affordable wedding day.

4 – Opt for more greenery and less blooms

In the same vein, choosing to go heavier on the greens and adding a few blooms here and there for a splash of color is much more economical than a bouquet of blooms with a splash of greens. Greens offer a wide-variety of shades and textures and can be used to create lush, full bouquets and centerpieces.

5 – Narrow down your guest list

One of the best ways to reduce cost is to whittle down the guest list. While some couples are hesitant to do so, it is not considered poor etiquette to not include a “plus guest” invite for single friends or to throw an adult-only event. With the average cost per guest between $120-$150, this is a great way to throw the celebration you want while staying within your budget.

6 – Simplify your food and beverage options

One of the quickest ways to lower wedding expenses is to simplify your menu. Instead of a formal plated dinner, consider a buffet, brunch wedding, taco bar or heavy appetizers. Simplifying the bar menu to a couple signature cocktails, beer, and wine only can also significantly reduce bar costs compared to a full open bar. Choosing a venue that allows for flexibility when it comes to catering options can also help you stay within budget.

7 – Capitalize on free seasonal décor

This is particularly easy to do if you’re planning your wedding at a public venue leading up to the holidays when Christmas trees, lights and other seasonal decor abound!

8 – Explore location options

Consider using seasonal flowers for your wedding party’s flowers.  They are plentiful and often times less expensive.

Instead of opting for a traditional setting, think outside the box and consider a park with a pavilion, a historical landmark in your town or even your own backyard. While some of these options seem more affordable at first, however, keep in mind that when you “create your own venue” you may incur additional costs such as lighting and sound, generator rental, portable bathrooms, etc.

9 – Print your own Save-the-Date cards and invitations

This is a fun and easy way to add a personal touch to your big day. Either design and order them at online discount stores or buy some high-quality cardstock and print them at home.  Check here for more invitation ideas.

Use seasonal decor & save.  Having a fall wedding? Pumpkins, gourds and leaves are everywhere & easy to work in as table centerpieces.

10 – Rent or borrow a dress

Wedding dresses can be incredibly spendy. Consider renting a dress for a fraction of the cost or borrowing your mom or grandma’s dress. This is a great way to cut costs while crossing “something old” or “something borrowed” off your list!

11 – Negotiate with the photographer

There are an array of options when it comes to wedding photos – don’t hesitate to investigate them! Would you prefer to have all your photos put onto a CD or USB so you can print them yourself? Or how about spending the money upfront to purchase the rights to your photos so you, your family and your friends can order as many as you want at a later time? Also, ask yourself what span of time you want your photographer available on your wedding day. Maybe it’s important to you to have your photographer available before and during the ceremony and you ask a friend to snap candids at the reception. The more time a photographer is onsite, the greater the cost. The more you can offset that, the greater the savings.

At The Gardens, you choose your vendors so have more control over costs! Interested in booking The Gardens for the backdrop to your big day? If you would like to learn more about us, we can be reached at 651.264.9510 or you can email us at info@thegardensofcastlerock.com

2019 Wedding Color Trends

Wedding color trends are largely influenced by wider color trends across various industries

A color pop of magenta and soft pink draping in The Lath House brings it all together.

The 2019 wedding season is officially upon us! As brides plan for their big day, one of the first things they decide on is their color scheme. While most brides don’t realize it, wedding color trends are largely influenced by wider color trends across various industries including home furnishings and industrial design. Every year, the Pantone Color Institute sifts through color influences worldwide, presents a Color of the Year and highlights other trending colors. Here are some Pantone-inspired color palettes that you can expect to see reflected in 2019 wedding color trends.

Spring color trends

Taking cues from springtime blooms, expect to see tones of blushes, wisteria, peony and desert rose. Metallics continue to maintain their popularity this year and a metallic gold will pair nicely with these softer hues. Following the 60-30-10 rule (60% primary color, 30% secondary color, 10% accent color), finish off this springy palette with a pop of emerald green, reflective of flower stems and emerging greenery.

Elegant white draping creates a romantic look while the emerald green of the table greenery makes this an authentic garden wedding.

Summer color trends

Ahhh…summertime. Everything is in full bloom and bright bold colors are everywhere in sight. Many brides will follow suit and celebrate this colorful season in a bold way! This year will usher in rich berries and violets while deep emeralds and deep sea will be popular primary and secondary choices. For accents and contrast, greys and buttercup will help soften bold colors and weave them together.

The accent of the dusty rose napkins stands out against the classic white palette with lush flowers and greenery.

Fall color trends

Fall in all its glory is quite a show-off and this fall will be no exception! Reflecting the golden and earthy tones of fall, this cozy color scheme showcases burnt yellow and orange while a natural green, slate blue and steely brown round out the palette. This scheme will be perfect for outdoor weddings with it’s woodsy, autumnal feel.

Burlap table runners and cotton twine macrame in earthy tones give a relaxed outdoor vibe.

Winter color trends

Winter weddings are a great opportunity to showcase the red hues! In the same way that dogwood and holly berries stand out amidst the snowy, sparkling winter landscape, this winter you can expect to see deep pomegranate reds accented with metallic silver. These colors will be woven together with a cool grey or blue for an elegant and seasonal look.

In addition to to choosing seasonal colors, many couples are also using their wedding color palette to create a cohesive guest experience. Everything from floral arrangements and bridal party attire to invitation suites, lounge furniture, candles, and signature cocktails can reflect the chosen color story. Coordinating wedding colors help tie everything together beautifully while giving the celebration a polished and memorable look.

2018 WEDDING TRENDS YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS!

2018 WEDDING TRENDS YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS!

2018 wedding trends are out and couples are paying attention! Let’s take a look at some of the hottest trends for the 2018 wedding season…

The Grand Promenade at The Gardens of Castle Rock is formal and elegant… crisp, clean and classic!

There’s no one-size-fits-all wedding “rule” book. In fact, there are as many possibilities for attire, décor, florals, food and drink as there are ideas in each bride and groom’s imagination. And there are an equally infinite number of personal touches and out of the box ideas each couple can incorporate into their ceremony and reception. That being said, every year talented wedding planners, floral designers and wedding vendors create trends that couples can adopt and customize to their individual tastes. 2018 wedding trends are out and couples are paying attention! Let’s take a look at some of the hottest trends for the 2018 wedding season…

• A return to formality – Many couples are once again opting for a formal wedding complete with crisp, clean colors and elegant décor. While black and white remain prevalent color choices for a formal wedding, more couples are choosing navy or midnight blue for the neutral shade in their wedding’s color palate. It’s a formal that incorporates a bit of fancy and sparkle keeping it from appearing “stuffy”. The uber-elegant affair is making a comeback particularly among those couples with a sizable guest list.

Wedding in the Woods at The Gardens is natural and intimate.

• The woodsy look is in – This trend stands in stark contrast to the resurgence of the formal wedding trend and is equally gaining momentum as we look towards 2018. No longer identified as “rustic” this wedding trend is all about nature and greenery. It leaves burlap and the “barn” feel behind in favor of wooden details, green-hued accents and florals that incorporate greens. It may also include décor made from natural elements such as twigs, birch bark, pinecones and cattails. According to Taylor Green of Taylor Elise Events in St. Louis, Missouri, “wooden details can include the invitation, table numbers, seating cards, tags, chargers, signage, chairs and tables”. The woodsy trend is a particularly popular choice for a more-intimate outdoor ceremony.

The ever so classy ‘Naked Cake’

• Hanging florals – No longer are flowers reserved for ground-level admiration only. Suspended arrangements are in. In combination with simply-decorated guest tables this hot trend will wow guests with cascading and unconventional splendor and will create the feeling of a secret garden setting.

• The naked wedding cake – In contrast to its elaborately-decorated and frosted, traditional counterpart, the naked wedding cake conveys an understated beauty. This next year more wedding cakes will forgo the frosting and fondant and stun guests by revealing the cake’s interior texture and colors. Placed on a silver pedestal and adorned with fresh flowers, the naked wedding cake adds just the right balance of elegance and whimsy.
• The millennial pink wedding dress – While the white wedding dress is still certainly a popular go-to for brides everywhere, millennial pink is attracting more attention. In 2018 more brides will opt for a dress that reflects this emerging trend. The light bluish pink hue isn’t too bold yet adds a unique flair for a delicate statement as one-of-a-kind as the bride herself.

Glam tones… beautiful, beautiful colors!

• “Glam” tones – Custom Navy, Cream Rose, White & Custom Green play marvelously together in this trendy, preppy-meets-pretty palate. From classic to elegant, couples will embrace the ageless appeal and versatility of these hues.

• “Sprinkled” tones – Custom Teal, Lavender, Turquoise & Gold are a winning bunch. Think summertime! The teal, lavender and turquoise shades convey a fun, carefree, cotton candy vibe while the gold adds a perfect splash of glamour for a warm-weather wedding. Distinctive and alluring, 2018 is sure to pull these tones into the wedding spotlight.

• Immersive guest experiences – From interactive food stations, signature cocktails, cozy lounge areas, and live entertainment, weddings are becoming less about tradition and more about creating unforgettable moments. Things such as late-night snacks, a photo booth, or a sparkler send-off these elements bring a fun, and lasting impression that guests will talk about long after the celebration ends.

Whether you incorporate one or all the trends in your big day, The Gardens is the perfect venue to let your imagination go! You can enjoy unlimited flexibility to create a day just the way you want it. Your wedding should reflect who you are as a couple. You are in control of designing an event that is an extension of the values and beliefs found in your relationship. After all it’s your day! Email us at info@thegardensofcastlerock.com to start creating your perfect formal, woodsy, glam tones, sprinkled day with a naked cake wedding today!

Six Keys to Avoiding Wedding Day Color Mistakes

Six Keys to Avoiding Wedding Day Color Mistakes

It’s not the biggest decision you’ll make in wedding planning, you’ve already said yes… but, picking colors is near the top!

Ribbons of multiple colors with similar hues hung for the ceremony backdrop make the couples neutral colors stand out beautifully.

Deciding on a color palette is a pivotal step which will influence all aspects of your wedding. You’ll be eating, breathing, living these colors for the months of wedding planning, and for the years afterwards as you enjoy your wedding photos.

How can you make color decisions confidently, so your choices stand the test of the time, please the eye (yours and most of your guests, anyway), and contribute to a cohesive reflection of your personal aesthetic?

We’ve listed a few common mistakes, and their remedies. As you consider your color choices, let these tips guide you.

Mistake: Not communicating colors accurately

Remedy: Collect and share swatches. One person’s lilac is another person’s lavender; one person’s fuchsia is another person’s magenta. Eliminate the ambiguity by collecting swatches from magazines and paint stores. Viewing palettes for home decor as well as weddings can help you nail down your shades, and identifying the Pantone color will be helpful for graphic artists, and even some cake decorators.

Mistake: Overlooking the venue colors

Especially for outdoor wedding venues the color of the venue play a big role in choosing your colors.

Remedy: Choose a priority. While most venues generally make an effort to be neutral, they’ll still have a palette which will inform the look of your wedding. If you’re absolutely committed to a color selection, make sure you choose a venue where that selection will shine. Alternately, if you’ve found a venue you love, let its palette inform your own. Perhaps your heart was set on a deep, true purple but the venue is dominated by dark woods and dark colors. Maybe you need to shift to a dusty lilac. Or you may have found a historic ballroom with pastel yellow walls: your vivid orange might need to shift to coral.

Mistake: Overdoing it with too many colors

Simple and clean will make the subtlest color pop.

Remedy: Narrow it down. A simple palette is more striking. You can choose a single color for a bold statement, like pure white or lush lilac. More likely, you’ll want two, three or even four colors. Choose one as the predominant color, and the others will serve as accents. By sticking to your selection, you’ll get a cohesive, unified look. If that feels a little too rigid or formal, you can vary shades of the same color for more depth and variety.

Mistake: Embracing a two-color limit

Remedy: Loosen up! The strict two-color palette used to be de rigueur, and like many rules, there’s a time to break it. When colors really work together, you can embrace up to five of them with success. How to make a bigger palette work? Include two neutrals to keep it grounded, like brown and cream or gray and white. Embracing a bigger palette helps pull off a more thematic expression, echoing an English country garden or a winter ice palace.

Mistake: Competing colors

The flowers. Let your use of color dictate what you want your guests to notice.

Remedy: Choose one to dominate. When you choose your colors, select one to seize the stage. If your focal color is bright, the secondary colors should be muted. If your focal color is muted, you can have one, possibly two, bright supporting colors. Contrast in tone is essential to give the eye a chance to rest, and to ensure your decor is pleasing, not distracting.

Mistake: Neglecting texture

Remedy: Capitalize on texture similarities or differences. First, you can mix textures in a single hue for drama and depth. A thoughtful blend of shiny, matte, and woven-in texture like stripes or jacquard can be understated yet beautiful. You can also consider stripes or florals to express your color theme without being overwhelming. Make sure the textures make sense together: typically you wouldn’t combine burlap with satin, or seersucker with metallic, because they speak to different aesthetic themes.

To further simplify your planning process, consider working with an experienced venue like The Gardens of Castle Rock that understands how wedding color palettes interact with natural landscapes based off season, and decor trends. By aligning your color choices with your venue and the time of year, you’ll create a visually appealing wedding that photographs beautifully and feels intentional from ceremony to reception.

Don’t under estimate the colors of the venue, especially outdoor/garden venues.  Spring, summer, winter or fall… the season will impact the look and feel of any color you choose. The Gardens of Castle Rock helps with colors by capturing thousands of images and sharing them organized by the month of the year.  The greens of spring are much different than the greens of summer.  Contact an event coordinator as The Gardens to begin planning the most beautiful wedding ever… yours!!  Email us at info@thegardensofcastlerock.com or call us at 651-264-9510

Create a Wedding that Reflects You as a Couple

Create a Wedding that Reflects You as a Couple

Express yourselves as a couple!

Your wedding might be the biggest party you ever throw, and it’s a great opportunity to express yourselves as a couple. No doubt the two of you share a passion for something wonderful, whether it’s a sport, a hobby or a profession. You can make that passion a central theme of your wedding.

Some couples exchange vows while running a marathon, SCUBA diving or sky diving, which is a ton of fun but tends to limit the guest list. Other couples bring their passion into the wedding ceremony and reception, relying on it to inform the theme of the event.

Is there something that brought the two of you together to start with? Maybe you met at a photography exhibit, a soccer game, or a kayaking meet-up. Do you devote your free time to classic films, volunteering at the Humane Society, or wine tasting? Do you share a passion for sci-fi, square-dancing or scrabble? Maybe there’s a book, a film, or a city you both love. Consider what passions and past-times you share and consider reflecting it in your wedding.

For example, a couple who loves to go hunting together can embrace the camo theme. Yes, it’s possible to buy a camo wedding dress–Google it and find out! If fishing is more your speed, get married in waders, and have centerpieces inspired by hand-tied flies.

Perhaps your first vacation together was to Paris, or it’s your dream honeymoon destination. Let the French city of light inspire your outfits and your decor, with cafe-style seating, beautiful patisseries, and Eiffel tower invitations and decor. Don’t forget Edith Piaf and accordion music!

Was your first date at a tiki bar? A tiki-themed wedding is guaranteed fun, with tiki torches, bright colors, luscious pupu platters and a miniature umbrella in every mai tai.
Do you love golfing together? Think green and white for a color scheme, with a 19th hole serving Arnold Palmers and a white wedding cake dimpled like a golf ball.

One couple who works from home decided on a pajama wedding. Since they both spend the better part of their days in PJ’s, they invited guests to play along and wear pajamas to the ceremony.

If you share an obsession with a favorite movie, draw your theme from it. Whether it’s Star Wars, Casablanca or Gone with the Wind, you’ll have fun choosing gowns, suits, decor, music, food and drink to share your passion with family and friends.

A couple devoted to travel can incorporate maps, luggage tags and vintage suitcases into the decor. A couple infatuated with photography can make centerpieces out of vintage cameras and use black-and-white prints as placemats. Minnesota Vikings season ticket-holders can rely on purple and gold for their colors, and serve hot dogs, pretzels and beer.

Interactive guest experiences are also on trend, such as audio guest books where guest can leave a message for the couple to listen to later. Live artists such as live wedding painters or fashion illustrators can caption a specific moment in time for you or your guests to remember your wedding day. Bringing in late-night food that reflets your cultural roots or hometown favorites can make your wedding day feel unique and authentically you.

The bottom line: it’s YOUR wedding, make it your own! Creating a celebration that truly represents who you are together rather than what a wedding is “supposed” to be will make it that much more memorable for you as well as your guests. If you exchange vows wearing waders, you know you’ll make a long-lasting impression.

Heads Up! Hanging Flowers at Your Wedding

Heads Up! Hanging Flowers at Your Wedding

Let the beauty rise above it all… Flowers are popping up everywhere!

Jessa & Alex at The Gardens of Castle Rock - Minnesota Nature Inspired WeddingThe latest floral design trend explores an unexpected frontier: Look, up above! Not a bird, not a plane, but flowers!

Formerly the domain of lights and lanterns, hanging floral accents are increasingly making dramatic statements at wedding venues. A quick online search reveals hanging floral features ranging from simple, rustic and modest to incredibly lavish and over-the-top. Explore all those gorgeous images and maybe you’ll see something perfect for your big day.Jessa & Alex at The Gardens of Castle Rock - Minnesota Nature Inspired Wedding

Many iterations on the theme depend on a container. We love those clear glass orbs often used with air plants. Hang by a ribbon or fishing line, and tuck a single rose, peony or orchid in each. Intersperse votive candles in some of them, and give them away to guests at the end of the party. Mason jars wrapped with wire, ribbon or beads can hang above tables holding small bouquets. Clear or colored wine bottles also make pretty vases, and a DIY enthusiast can make dozens of attractive hanging vases from light bulbs.

Pomanders are trending. Echoing the shape of a tissue pompom and named after the fragrant clove-studded orange beloved at Christmas, florists are crafting beautiful monochromatic orbs of tightly packed flowers, or looser spheres exploding with baby’s breath. If you’ve got access to a few hydrangea bushes, you can approximate this look with simple hydrangea crowns dangling above.

Vertical strands of flowers make a beautiful backdrop for the ceremony, the cake or photos. They can also cascade from the ceiling in a wash of color. A truly show-stopping option is a cascading wisteria-style installation. These trailing florals create a soft, garden-like canopy overhead, adding movement and elegance to a space like a ceremony aisle.

Continuous garlands in the tradition of Indian temple decorations and Hawaiian leis are one option, or attach flower heads to clear fishing line at intervals for a transparent floating effect. Using a range of shades of one color enables a lovely ombre effect.Shannon & Jeran at The Gardens of Castle Rock - Minnesota Wedding & Event Center

For a simple, elegant, floating look, tulips and certain other long-stemmed flowers can be hung over wires or chandeliers, right where the stem meets a leaf. Add a touch of sparkle with some hanging crystals or lights, or switch to a culinary angle with plump bunches of green and red grapes with ivy.

If you incline toward rustic refined, consider a hanging shelf made of a weathered board. Vases and candles can be secured on top, or flowers can be arranged right on top, cascading over the edges. Bring a woodland effect to the arrangement with driftwood, moss, ferns, leaves and curly willow. Another attractive vintage accessory: the birdcage, oozing and overflowing with flowers.

Lighted garlands of greens or flowers, attached to the structural components of the tent, lend a festive Midsummer’s Night Dream effect to the party. Echo the theme with horizontal hanging wreaths of ivy topped with votives.

Michelle & Brian at The Gardens of Castle Rock ~ Minnesota Garden Wedding PartyTalented florists can craft large inverted arrangements in virtually any style, from geometrical and compact to lavish tangles of blooms–perhaps to set the head table off from the rest of the room, without obstructing sight lines like a traditional table-top arrangement.Michelle & Brian at The Gardens of Castle Rock ~ Minnesota Garden Wedding Party

Enhance any of these eye-catching up-above arrangements with other hanging attractions. Edison bulbs, lanterns, crystals, jewels, paper parasols, paper fans and origami cranes can all provide an extra pop of color or texture in your heads-up decor.

Cherish Design… we love when couples get creative with their decor. Especially floral, after all it is The Gardens.   Contact The Gardens it you want to take your wedding experience up a notch!
